What is Science Fiction?
Science fiction is a pretty popular genre for stories, not just short stories. Science fiction is a genre that is mostly about the future and about technology that society could potentially develop. Science fiction often gets confused with fantasy, but is not the same thing as fantasy. Fantasy stories have certain parts included into them that would never be possible for humans to create or to discover. A good example of this would be a story about how unicorns waged war against all the humans dominated the earth. As far as we know, that is physically impossible and would never be able to happen in reality. On the contrary, science fiction uses references to technology that could potentially happen, but cannot happen at this time. Science fiction can also take place anywhere from 10,000 years in the future to 100,000,000,000 years in the past, but it has to be respectively far enough away to be considered science fiction.

For More on Science Fiction: |
The story we read in class, "A Sound of Thunder", is science fiction for a couple of reasons. One reason it is science fiction is that it suggest ideas through technology that as of now our society does not have, such as time travel. In the story the main character travels through time to slay a dinosaur. This proves the story is science fiction because traveling through time is an idea of the future. Another reason it is science fiction is because the past is changed.
